Master Gardener Seminar Scheduled for June 21
PORT
ORCHARD, WA—A Master Gardener Seminar on June 21 will provide an
introduction to the use of Effective Microorganism (EM) technology.
Presenters will be Erika Fehr from EM America, Jerry Erickson and Kathy
Morse.
The use of EM is a relatively new technology aimed at developing
agricultural and environmental systems. It was developed by Dr. Higa at the
University of Ryukyus in Japan and introduced in 1982. It is a unique
technology that combines naturally occurring beneficial microorganisms and
is used extensively worldwide in the recycling of organic waste, agriculture
(used to enrich the soil and produce quality, healthy crops at a greater
yield with decrease in pests and disease), animal husbandry, and in the
environment for remediation and solid waste treatment.
The seminar will be located at the Eagles Nest Conference Room. The main
presentation will last from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed by an hour-long
session providing instruction in making Bokashi compost.
