WSU Extension Seminar Introduces
Bokashi-Making
PORT
ORCHARD, WA—WSU Extension will host a seminar in making Effective
Microorganism (EM) Bokashi on Wednesday, August 23, from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m.
at Raab Park Garden on Caldart Street in Poulsbo. The class will
be taught by Erika Fehr of EM America, who has six years' experience with EM
Bokashi.
Bokashi is a Japanese term that means "fermented
organic matter." This method allows you to compost your kitchen waste
without any foul odors—it will actually smell like pickles, and allows you
to compost even meat and protein.
Bokashi is a very potent compost starter you can easily
produce yourself. The EM Bokashi being created at this event uses molasses
and Effective Microorganisms fermented wheat bran. In two months it will
produce wonderful, ready-to-use compost. No odor, no flies, no long waiting
time until your compost is ready!
The class fee is $15, including all materials, with a
two-dollar rebate if you bring a guest. Bring cash or a check with you to
the class. EM and other EM products will also be available at the event for
rebate prices. Bring work gloves, a bucket for your Bokashi and rain gear in
case of rain.
If you are attending, contact Kathy Morse at
kmonbi@comcast.net or (206)
842-2845, so the proper amount of supplies are available. If you have
questions regarding the workshop, call Erika at (360) 894-6819.
