County Holds Public Meeting on Draft EIS for Ueland
Tree Farm Mineral Resource Development Plan
Proposed
mining of sand, gravel and basalt on 152 acres of forest land, located
approximately one mile west of Kitsap Lake off Northlake Way is discussed.
Port
Orchard, WA — The
Kitsap County Department of Community Development has issued a Draft
Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for proposed development of sand,
gravel and basalt mines on a portion of a 1,716 acre commercial forest land
property owned by Ueland Tree Farm LLC. The proposed action includes up to
two sand and gravel mines and three basalt quarry areas. Associated
development may include a concrete batch plant, a railroad spur line and a
topsoil production facility. Under the proposal, areas totaling
approximately 152 acres would be developed for surface mining and associated
activities. The DEIS is available for a thirty day review and comment
period. The property lies west of Kitsap Lake and the City of Bremerton in
Kitsap County. The DEIS is available at the Kitsap County Department of
Community Development in Port Orchard, the Kitsap Regional and Silverdale
Public Libraries and on-line at the Kitsap County website under Important
Documents and Links here.
The comment period ends March 30, 2009.

County is holding a public meeting to discuss the DEIS:
