Faver steps down as County Parks & Recreation Director
Arvilla Ohlde to be Interim Director
(Port Orchard, WA) –
Chip Faver
announced on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, that he is resigning from his position
of Director of Kitsap County*s
Department of Parks and Recreation. Faver joined Kitsap County
in February 2007 after a long career in parks and recreation programming,
including serving as Director of Services and Recreation for the United
States Air Force.
In
announcing his decision, Faver stated, “The time spent serving Kitsap
County
and its citizens has been an incredibly rich learning opportunity. I have
developed friendships here that will last through many years to come and
have an appreciation for the people I worked with – they are an incredible
team serving the citizens of Kitsap day in and day out.” Faver will pursue
municipal parks opportunities in the Southwest.
“Chip’s
enthusiasm and energy will be missed,” stated Charlotte Garrido, Chair of
the Board of County Commissioners. “He certainly left the Parks Department
in a better place than when he arrived two and a half years ago.
In that short time, he put a tremendous team in place in our parks
capital planning section, solidified our maintenance and special events
divisions, and initiated financial management systems, among others. We will
miss him here in Kitsap, and we wish him well as he returns to the Southwest
which he spoke so fondly of during his time here.”
Until the position can be permanently filled, Arvilla Ohlde will be the
Department’s Interim Director. She has 35 years’ experience in Parks and
Recreation, including serving as parks director for the City of
Edmonds and for the City of Bremerton. She currently
serves on the Mason County
Parks and Trails Advisory
Committee, and received the 2004 Washington Recreation & Parks Association
Distinguished Service Award, as well as past president of the organization.
Faver had contracted with Ohlde for a number of projects while
recruiting for parks planning staff and recommended her as his interim
replacement. “I can’t imagine leaving the Parks Department in better hands
than Arvilla’s – she is nationally respected in the field and will serve the
citizens well,” said Faver. ###
