Detectives DivisionThe Detectives Division is the unit that investigates all, but is not limited to, major felony crimes in the unincorporated areas of Kitsap County. The goal of the division is to be proactive, in a fair and impartial manner, in seeking out all identified individuals who participate in illegal activities and to take an aggressive stance, enforcing the laws to protect citizens against crime. The Detectives are called upon to address the problems of criminal activity in a variety of manners that may include:
The most recognized duties of detectives include receiving reports prepared by the patrol officers and performing the appropriate follow up investigations. Respond to a serious crime and initiate an investigation based on the type of crime. Detectives must be able to identify, preserve, and collect evidence at a crime scene. They must prepare reports for use by the county prosecutor in court. They have to testify in court and give accurate, detailed testimony relative to the results of criminal investigations. They must interview witnesses and interrogate suspects, prepare formal statements and arrest persons suspected of committing crimes based on probable cause or by warrant. Detectives assist the Patrol Division when needed and work with the Neighborhood Watch programs. |
