Pay and Benefit Package:The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office offers a very competitive pay and benefit package, as follows. Contract expiration date is December 31, 2009. Salary Range: $25.98 to $33.15 per hour ($54,038.40 to $68,952.00 annually, based on 2080 hours worked annually). Overtime paid per FLSA. Longevity Bonus: From 1.5% to 5% of salary, paid annually on anniversary date. Assignment Pay: 3.5% of the employee’s base hourly pay. Uniforms: The employer supplies and maintains uniforms and equipment. The plainclothes deputies receive $625.00 per year in clothing allowance. Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance and Disability Plans: Employees in this position may choose from four insurance plans. Premium rate sheets showing County and employee contributions will be available on the Kitsap County website at www.kitsapgov.com. The County pays premiums for $24,000 life insurance and dental coverage for the employee only. Dependents may be added to the dental and life insurance at the employee's cost, with the County contributing a portion of the premium. Retirement Plan: Law Enforcement Officers and Firefighters (LEOFF II) plan. Hours of Work: Deputies work a 5/8 shift that rotates every three months. Holidays: Eleven (11) paid holidays, seven (7) of which are premium days for which the deputy receives additional halftime pay.
You may carry over a total of 360 hours per calendar year. At retirement the employee is paid for the unused annual leave at the rate at the time of separation. Sick Leave: Ten (10) hours per month of employment, with a maximum annual carryover of 1200 hours. Fifty (50) percent is paid upon retirement. Bereavement Leave: Up to three (3) days per year are allowed and are not accumulative, to attend a funeral for a death in the employee’s immediate family, as defined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Salary Range $19.43 to $26.03 per hour ($40,414.40 to $54,142.40 annually, based on 2080 hours worked annually) for 2008. Overtime paid per FLSA. Uniforms: The employer supplies and maintains uniforms and equipment. Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance and Disability Plans: Several medical plans are offered. The employer pays one hundred percent (100%) of the premium for the employee on all plans. Employer pays all or a portion of dependent medical depending on what plan is selected. Desirable, but not required: one year of work experience in areas such as military police, probation and parole, police officer, jail attendant or guard, psychiatric nursing, juvenile detention, or other closely related work experience that required a direct exposure to detention or an institutional setting.
