Drainage Improvements & Maintenance
Continuous improvements and maintenance of the County’s
stormwater drainage facilities reduce the frequency and severity of
flooding, improve water quality, increase fish passage, and provide
habitat. Regular inspection and maintenance prevents trapped
pollutants and debris from entering our waterways.

The Surface and Stormwater Management's Capital Improvement Program
evaluates large sections of the County for future drainage infrastructure
improvements, constructs new conveyance projects, and retrofits existing
portions of the storm drain system.
Surface and Stormwater Management staff annually inspects and maintains more than 9,900
storm drains, retention/detention facilities (storm ponds), and other
publicly owned components of the storm drain system. Routine removal and
proper disposal of accumulated sediment and pollutants prevents them from
being discharged to our streams, lakes, and shorelines.
