Kitsap County
volunteer!
The Kitsap County Volunteer
Program places hundreds of people each year throughout county departments and on
county and community advisory groups. Volunteers, by generously giving their time, extend
county services with their commitment to the community. They invest energy,
skills and talent to make Kitsap County a better place to live.
In 2010 over
5,630 volunteers and interns contributed more than 231,552 hours of service. In
addition to the priceless gift of community spirit, their contribution is valued
at 4.9 million dollars.
Youth over fourteen (14) years of age, gain new skills
and impact their community. Youth under eighteen must have parental permission to volunteer
in county departments. Youth under 14 may be able to volunteer with family
members. Referrals can also be made to other community agencies which welcome
youth volunteers.
Adults learn new skills or share acquired
ones while they help their neighbors and contribute to the livability of Kitsap County.
College Student Interns can work on responsible
projects and gain real work experience in their field. We will work with you and
your college to match you with a project or position which meets your goals and helps you
fulfill your internship requirements.
Students in high school can prepare for the work force by gaining valuable experience
and skills while they volunteer.
Groups such as church, community service, support,
military, youth and business groups find adopting projects or conducting programs
within county departments connects them with
the needs of their neighbors.

fourth floor of the Kitsap

Inquire: If you do not see a volunteer
position that
interests or suits you, check with the county's
volunteer coordinator about additional possibilities. Many departments are willing to
create a position with a volunteer's unique skills or interests in mind.

An Interview: After you apply, you will participate in
an interview to assure a successful match between you, the department, and the job.
For some short-term or one-time projects the interview process may be waived or modified.
An Orientation: You may expect an orientation that
acquaints you with Kitsap County policies and procedures, expectations you should have for
the county, expectations the county has of you, and general information about departments,
advisory boards, and volunteer opportunities.
Training: The department or program with which you
volunteer will provide on-the-job training, workplace safety requirements, department
procedures, and supervision to develop necessary job skills.
Recognition: As a Kitsap County volunteer you may
expect recognition and acknowledgement for your contribution.
In 2010, community
volunteers contributed services worth $4,945,956. We appreciate the contribution
of their skills and the time they devoted to help Kitsap County provide services
to the community.
