Local Treatment Plants Receive Ecology Award

(Port Orchard) – Washington State Department of Ecology has selected the Manchester Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Central Kitsap Wastewater Treatment Plant to receive a 2005 "Outstanding Wastewater Treatment Plant" award. The Wastewater Operations Supervisors and Operators of each plant will accept the award at the Commissioners meeting August 28, 2006.

Of 300 wastewater treatment plants evaluated in 2005, Manchester Wastewater Treatment Plant and Central Kitsap Wastewater Treatment Plant were two of only 46 plants to achieve full compliance with their discharge permit. Each treatment plant was tested for compliance with effluent limits, monitoring and reporting requirements, spill prevention planning, pretreatment, and other regulatory activities.

"Ecology is impressed by the extraordinary level of effort Kitsap County demonstrated throughout 2005", said David C. Peeler, Washington State Department of Ecology Water Quality Program Manager. "The treatment plants are managed by dedicated operators whose efforts complement one another to ensure outstanding compliance and the protection of our state’s water quality".
