Current Use & Forest Land
Property Tax Assessment

Washington State Law provides property tax relief for certain agricultural, timber, forest and open space lands.  If your property meets certain use requirements, taxable value for the land will be based on its current use rather than market value.  Current use classification is not automatic – you must apply and be approved.

The intent of these programs is to preserve sensitive lands and promote growth, an agreement between the land owner and the Granting Authority must be signed.  These agreements will specify certain conditions.  Some of these conditions may be, for example, no clearing of vegetation, no dumping, no campfires or hunting.

Application and recording fees may be required.  This is a two year process, for example, if you submit a complete application in 2010 and are approved, your first tax reduction would be in 2012.  Click on one of the options listed below for more specific information:

Applications may be obtained from and filed with the Assessor’s Office.
