Property Tax Deferral

The deferral program postpones payment of your taxes and/or special assessments.  On your behalf, the Department of Revenue pays the deferred taxes and/or special assessments to the county where you live. The amount of the postponed taxes and/or special assessment, plus 8% interest, becomes a lien in favor of the state until the total amount is repaid.

To qualify, you must be at least 60 years old or physically disabled with an annual income of $40,000 or less (proof of income and disability (if applicable) required).  To apply, complete the application and submit it to our Exemption Specialist.  If approved you must provide proof of home owners insurance (fire and casualty) and list the State of Washington as a loss payee.
