News Release
January 14, 2004

Assessment information for all Kitsap County personal property taxpayers is now available on the Assessor’s web page (www.kitsapgov.com/assr). This is a logical follow-on to an earlier initiative, which shows specific property tax and assessment information on the county’s 111,000 real property accounts.

Personal property tax is paid by most all county businesses. Personal property assessed value is combined with real property in all county taxing districts to set levy rates. The same levy rate used with real property is applied against the depreciated value of all machinery, equipment, software, leasehold improvements, and supplies used in business operations. Even rental videotapes and DVDs are assessed a personal property tax.

Because personal property tax is predominantly a self-reporting system there is always the chance that some businesses are not paying their fair share of this tax. Whenever this happens all other property tax payers end up paying a higher tax bill. Some businesses with minimal personal property (under $5000) may not show up on the web listing. All business owners and/or clients and customers of businesses not showing on the list are encouraged and welcome to contact the Assessor’s office at 337-7160 or email to personal.property@co.kitsap.wa.us.
