Our commitment to process improvements is stronger than ever in 2014. Last year we conducted top-to-bottom reviews, improved policies and procedures, provided Lean Six Sigma and customer service training, and implemented numerous efficiencies. That trend continues as we aggressively work to exceed customer expectations through innovation.

Elections Division
Kitsap County Elections is a leader in accessible voting with programs such as the acclaimed Online Ballot Access. This reputation is not possible without the contributions of volunteers like Cindy Van Winkle. Her feedback and usability testing are instrumental in developing programs that truly meet the needs of all voters, including voters with disabilities. Cindy was recently named an Outstanding County Government Volunteer by the Kitsap County Commissioners.

Candidate filing week is May 12-16. Elections in even-numbered years include congressional, legislative, judicial and countywide offices. To learn more visit our Candidate Filing website.

Financial Services
In 2013, we published our first Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR). This report provides an overview of the county’s revenues, expenditures, and other general information in an easy to read format. We received an award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting for the 2012 report. Financial reports such as the PAFR and the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report demonstrate our commitment to transparency and open government. These reports are available here: Financial Reporting.

Effective June 30, all same sex domestic partnerships will convert to marriages unless one of the partners is 62 or older. This new state law does not affect city and county domestic partnerships. The Secretary of State and Department of Health published helpful resources if you would like additional information. To learn more visit Kitsap County Licensing and click on ‘Domestic Partnership Conversion Frequently Asked Questions.’

Licensing your pets is a great way to help ensure that you will be reunited if they ever go astray. A new fee structure was introduced in January that includes three-year and lifetime licensing options in addition to the one-year option. The Auditor’s Office only licenses pets in unincorporated Kitsap County. Be sure to contact your city for pet licensing information if you live in Bainbridge Island, Bremerton, Port Orchard or Poulsbo.

Did you know?
Vehicle tabs expire one year from the date of purchase. Many drivers mistakenly think tabs expire at the end of the month listed on your license plate sticker. This was true for many years but is no longer the case. Don’t wait until the end of the month to renew your tabs because they may already be expired. To learn more visit the Washington State Department of Licensing.
