County Auditor Walt Washington is dedicated to providing
high-quality services that are accountable and accessible to all
Kitsap residents.
Elected in 2008, Walt oversees Kitsap County elections and voter
registration, licensing, public records and financial services.
Walt has a vast work history with experience in finance,
personnel, public policy and collaboration with special interest
groups. With a degree in personnel management, a distinguished
career in banking and a proven track record as a public official,
Walt’s experience has served him well in his role as County Auditor.
He has overseen the implementation of more than 340 changes in
federal and state laws to safeguard voters’ rights and protect
against election fraud. As Auditor, Walt has maintained Kitsap
County’s reputation for integrity in elections, and has encouraged
civic involvement in election oversight and voter registration.
His focus on fiscal accountability was recognized with a national
award for excellence in financial reporting by the Government
Finance Officers Association. Microsoft presented Walt with their
Pioneer in Preserving Military Voting award for his department’s
innovative efforts to make voting more accessible for U.S. citizens
living and serving overseas.
A decorated veteran, Walt has a long history of commitment to
public service and community involvement. He is an active member of
the Poulsbo North Kitsap Rotary Club, United Way of Kitsap County
and is President of the Kitsap County Habitat for Humanity.
Long time residents of Poulsbo, Walt and his wife Mayre are
dedicated to community involvement and grassroots participation in
Kitsap County. Walt considers it an honor and a privilege to serve
as Kitsap County Auditor.
