Jan Angel
Kitsap County Commissioner, District 2

Since 2001, Kitsap County Commissioner Jan Angel has addressed daily the governance needs of citizens countywide and within her South Kitsap district, which includes areas of the City of Bremerton, all of the City of Port Orchard, Olalla, Manchester, Southworth and South Colby.

One of Jan’s touchstones is economic development and revitalization. For several years, Jan served on the Economic Development District Board as well as their executive board. Jan participated in a Friendship Delegation to China with Washington State Lt. Gov. Brad Owen. This project helped to establish business links from China to Kitsap. She was a founding member of the Kitsap International Trade Council. Currently, she sits on the board of the Kitsap Economic Development Alliance.

Presently, Jan serves regionally on the board of the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency. She is past president of the Western District of the Washington State Association of Counties (2003-2004) and has served on the WSAC statewide Board of Directors for the last six years. She is a member of the State of Washington Farm Bureau, the Kitsap/Mason County Farm Bureau, the Hood Canal Coordinating Council, St. Anthony's Hospital Steering Committee, Navy League, the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Coalition, the Kitsap Audubon Society, The Kitsap County Historical Society, The Great Peninsula Conservancy, Sidney Art Gallery and Museum and Enterprise Washington.

Locally, Jan serves on the Kitsap Regional Coordinating Council (past chair), the CENCOM 911 Policy Board (past chair), the County Emergency Management Board (past chair), Kitsap County Health District Board (past chair), Kitsap Transit, and is currently serving as Chair of the Kitsap County Consolidated Housing Authority.  She has also served on the CENCOM 911 Executive Board for the past six years.

With over 37 years of business experience, Jan has a broad background as a banker, real estate associate and an entrepreneur.  Jan spent 14 years in commercial banking.  She owned her own business with approximately 54 employees here in Kitsap for nine years with locations in Port Orchard and Silverdale, as well as locations in Pierce County. While working in Kitsap real estate, Jan was “Top Company Sales Associate” for the seven consecutive years she was in the business. Jan has had 37 years of extensive community service activities. She has served as an officer and a board member in many community organizations. Jan continues to be a member of the Port Orchard, Silverdale, Bremerton, Poulsbo, and Bainbridge Island Chambers of Commerce and the Port Orchard Rotary Club.  She is a Past President of the Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce and has served on their board for 13 years.  She is now an honorary Board of Directors member. 

While in office, Jan has received the Kitsap Association of Realtors 2002 "Citizen of the Year" award, Soroptimist International of Port Orchard 2003-2004 "Woman of Distinction Award" and the 2005 Kitsap Association of Realtors "Award of Excellence in Public Service" for her contributions to the quality of life in Kitsap County and her support of citizens property rights. She also received the Washington Association of Counties 2003 recognition award for being one of three women named the first all woman Board of County Commissioners in the history of the State of Washington.

Jan has lived in South Kitsap for 25 years. She is married to Lynn Williams, has two adult daughters that are partners in their own Port Orchard  and Silverdale businesses, and is grandmother to Willow & Sydney (age 8), Gavin (age 6), Skyla Rae (age 3) and Blu (age 1). She is originally from Colorado. Jan attended Colorado State University and the University of Alaska, Anchorage, majoring in business administration. She received her certified Public Official designation in 2003 and also is a 2003 graduate of the County Leadership Institue, Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University Wagner.
