Central Kitsap Community Campus

Why a Community Campus?

Why should such a community campus be built? One of the primary reasons for creating such a community campus is economy and efficiency in construction, maintenance, management and use. The campus approach allows for economy of scale in the construction of the infrastructure and parking for the various campus components, as well as in the management and maintenance of the campus and its component buildings. Additionally, it allows for convenience and efficiency of use by our community, particularly our youth who do not drive.

Community members will be able to move between the components with a short walk through the park-like setting of the campus. This will be of particular value to our non-driving youth and their parents. The campus will provide an alternative location for youth to congregate. A place where then can meet, read and engage in healthy physical activity in a safe environment. A child will be able to walk from the community center or the swimming pool to the library, where they can wait for their parents and read a book at the same time.

Many communities have adopted such a community campus approach. Examples include Kirkland, Washington, with its Peter Kirk Park and Vancouver, Washington, with its Jim Parsley Community Center. Another benefit of the Central Kitsap Community Campus will be economic development. It is anticipated that, when completed, the Central Kitsap Community Campus will become a major asset in the future economic development of our community. Our local economic development leaders can use the Central Kitsap Community Campus as a selling point in persuading businesses to locate in Kitsap County because the campus will evidence a forward thinking community that offers a great quality of life for its citizens.
