Task Force Guiding Principles

In developing the concept of the Central Kitsap Community Campus, the Task Force has adopted a set of “guiding principles”. In adopting these guiding principles, the Task Force has recognized that these Guiding Principles are not an exhaustive list of concerns and that some may be inconsistent or extremely difficult to achieve. However, the Task Force does believe that these guiding principles should be considered in the development of the Central Kitsap Community Campus. These guiding principles include:

- Have a park-like setting, be aesthetically pleasing, include meaningful open space and be integrated with county’s open space plans
- Be located on a site that allows for future expansion that has the capability to include components and uses not yet envisioned
- Be pedestrian friendly with safe and pleasant sidewalks
- Have consistent architecture and architectural standards
- Be accessible; be compatible, consistent and integrated with future transportation planning, public transit and any planned bicycle or pedestrian trail system
- Have meeting space adequate for community needs
- Have intergenerational appeal and use
- Have adequate parking that is attractive and blends with the park-like setting, and where possible be underground and/or under building
- Be located within or near the Silverdale Core
- Use multi-story buildings whenever possible in order to preserve open space.
- Have extra capacity for utilities, including cable and telecommunications, for future demands
- Be capable of generating revenue
- Include potential space for government offices and offices for service organizations
- Lend itself to comprehensive management and maintenance
- Have adequate restrooms for campus patrons as well as pedestrians walking through the campus
- Reflect the character and history of Silverdale and the Central Kitsap community
- Have a park & ride capability or be near a park & ride site
