Individual Feature Maps
During the Summer and early Fall of 2007, Kitsap County field crews inventoried the Eastern saltwater shoreline and collected a variety of information concerning environmental stressors and conditions.

One part of the inventory involved measuring individual features as encountered, such as armoring, outfalls, etc. The maps below illustrate important aspects of those individual feature types.

Pocket Estuaries
Potential Pocket Estuaries are defined as small, sub-estuaries within a larger estuary. On this second map, Pocket Estuaries located by the Puget Sound Action Team are identified. These were located using aerial photos and digital elevation models, not by field verification.

Pilings
448 occurrences of pilings were inventoried, grouped together in four categories
Debris Points
Defined as any presence of contamination, not naturally occurring. 98 debris points were noted.
Access Points
These are private access points on waterfront property, providing the homeowner access to their shoreline beach property. THESE ARE NOT PUBLIC ACCESS POINTS

Armoring
Of the 150 miles inventoried, 59 miles were armored at or below the ordinary high water mark. This equals 39% of the shoreline being in a stressed condition from armoring alone. Rip-Rap accounts for 34% of the total shoreline armoring, Alternative Bank Protection Methods account for only 3% of the total armoring, and the traditional bulkhead accounts for the remaining 63% of the total shoreline that is armored.
Water Outlets
In this project all water outlets, regardless of size were noted, 2210 outlets were inventoried, equaling an average of 14.7 per mile. 754 of the occurrences were of grouped outlets, often within bulkheads.
3 distinct types were measured:
Other 3%
Culverts 4%
Natural 10%
Pipe/Tubing 83%
