KITSAP YOUTH MENTORING CONSORTIUM
Established in April 2002
"Growing Quality Mentoring Relationships for Kitsap Youth"

Research and experience show that youth who are paired

with caring, consistent role models and friends are likely to have:

      ·         Better attendance and attitudes toward school

·         Fewer incidents of hitting others

·         Less alcohol and drug use

·         More positive attitudes toward elders

·         Improved relationships with parents

Mentoring can be described as a positive relationship between an older person and a younger person.  The focus of the relationship is on the younger person developing character and competence with the guidance, support and friendship of the older person. (Kitsap County also has peer mentor programs, in which a youth acts as a friend and role model for another youth.)
