KITSAP YOUTH
MENTORING CONSORTIUM
Established
in April 2002
"Growing Quality Mentoring Relationships for Kitsap Youth"
You can make a big
difference in the life of a young person!
"He makes me feel special. He makes my life happier by spending
time with me." (Mentee age 5)
"My mentor has made my life better by giving me
more attention. She teaches me to make better choices."
(Mentee age 8)
"It's hard not to enjoy being a special person in the life of a lively,
bright six year old. What could be more rewarding than knowing you are
making a difference in the life of a child?" (Adult Mentor)
"You always hear how even the small things can make a difference. Being
able to
just be there for help or being someone they can count on
will really make the true difference in the end."
(Peer Mentor age 14)
"When I show up on Wednesday,
he’s at the door waiting for me. I feel like I better be there.
I pull up to his house,
take a couple of steps towards the front door and he
comes out…so that shows me that he wants to do this."
(Adult
Mentor)
"I used
to give up on things a lot before I met her.
And, well, I gained a new
friend." (Teen Mentee)
"We went to a Fourth of July
celebration, played basketball and have gone on walks. I went to some of
his outpatient treatment meetings with him. We talk on the phone. When He
stopped doing drugs his interests changed. He is more into music now."
(Adult Mentor)
"Being with her, I learned that it is better to be nice
to
people than to be mean. I used to be mean."
( Teen Mentee)
