Prevention Services work with community members and organizations to enhance the coordination of and strengthen the many elements that contribute to the health and well-being of all of our citizens. To this end Prevention Services funds leads or participates in an array of policy and program development, advocacy and community education efforts. The two programs that comprise Prevention Services, the Commission on Children and Youth and the Substance Abuse Prevention Program, formally integrated their activity in June 1997. Current activities focus primarily on promoting policies, programs and activities which encourage parental involvement, supportive school environments, and positive role models for children, and on developing a balanced approach to prevention, intervention and remediation for youth and families.
