County Coroner Appointed to Forensic Investigation Council

PORT ORCHARD, WA—Governor Gregoire has just appointed Kitsap County Coroner Greg Sandstrom to serve on the Forensic Investigation Council. Coroner Sandstrom will represent all coroner’s offices throughout Washington State for funding and training issues. The Forensic Investigation Council oversees the state toxicology laboratory, the Washington State Patrol crime laboratory and the state forensic pathology fellowship program, as well as approving budgets for each of these facilities. The council also facilitates the development of relevant sudden childhood death training for county coroners, medical examiners, law enforcement officers and other first responders.

Coroner Sandstrom will add this to his present duties as President of the Washington Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners. He is looking forward to promoting better training and investigation skills throughout Washington State and said this is a real opportunity to show Kitsap County’s lead role in the continuing quest for more thorough death investigations.

The Kitsap County Coroner’s Office also takes an aggressive role in helping to prevent premature deaths by alerting the public through many presentations to thousands of people each year. These presentations consist of DUI awareness, suicide prevention and general safety tips, to name a few.

Coroner Sandstrom said that he and Kitsap County are fortunate to have such highly dedicated and educated employees in his office.
