Paving Project for 305 Includes Two-Way Left Turn Lane
PORT
ORCHARD, WA—North Kitsap
residents will welcome an extended two-way left turn lane as part of a
paving project scheduled for later this summer. State Route 305 is scheduled
for paving from the ferry dock on Bainbridge
Island to the Poulsbo city limits. The section from Hostmark Street and Bond
Road will be widened to add lanes with peak hour high occupancy vehicle (HOV)
designation, improve five interchanges and install bike lanes. Road striping
will be changed to include a two-way left turn lane between Laura Loop and
Candy Loop Road, including the Sandy
Hook Road intersection.
"This revision provides a refuge area for
motorists wishing to turn from or onto Sandy Hook Road, or to one of the
several driveways in the area," said Randall Hain, Washington State
Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Administrator.
"State Route 305 is a vital transportation link for North Kitsap," said
Chris Endresen, County Commissioner for the district. "SR 305 traffic
volumes through Poulsbo have steadily increased in recent years,
substantially increasing congestion. This project will relieve traffic
congestion and provide much needed safety improvements for pedestrian and
bicycle movement. We want to thank WSDOT for working with us to move this
project forward."
Work is set to begin in early August and
scheduled to be completed by November 2007. For more information about this
