PORT
ORCHARD, WA—A Master Gardener Seminar titled “Pollinators: Honey Bees,
Mason Bees and Bumble Bees From a Beekeeper’s Perspective” is scheduled for
1:00–3:00 p.m. on August 16 at the Eagles Nest at the Kitsap Fairgrounds.
Local beekeeper Paul Lundy will cover the basics of bees as pollinators and talk
much about all bees, but especially honeybees, their importance and the joys of
beekeeping for the garden. An "observation hive" will be there to watch
the busy bees at work.
Speaker Paul Lundy lives in Kingston and has been a hobbyist beekeeper since
1997. His wife, Lisa, sells their local honey under the Myra Springs brand at
three local stores, Sacks Feed & Garden in Kingston, Pine Cone Gifts in Kingston
and the Indianola Country Store. Paul is a journeyman beekeeper, a member of
West Sound Beekeepers and participates in the Washington State Beekeepers
Association. He is the co-chair of the Washington State Beekeeping Association
Master Beekeepers Committee, which creates the testing curriculum and provides
standards for beekeeping education in Washington State. Also, Paul is the state
beekeeping association newsletter editor and helps teach basic beekeeping at
West Sound Beekeepers Association.
