Change a Light to Help Save Energy
PORT
ORCHARD, WA—Kitsap County asks you to “Change a Light” and
participate in the 2006 Change a Light Campaign sponsored by the National
Association of Counties (NACo) and Office Depot.
The Board of County Commissioners is encouraging all county staff to
change the most frequently used light in their home to an energy-efficient
compact fluorescent bulb. According to NACo, an energy-efficient light bulb
uses 2/3 less energy, generates 70% less heat and lasts up to ten times
longer. Replacing a 100-watt incandescent light bulb with a 32-watt
energy-efficient compact fluorescent bulb provides the same brightness but
saves at least $30 in energy costs over the life of just that one bulb.
“By each of us taking this small step, together we can reduce energy use,
protect our environment and save money,” said Chris Endresen, Kitsap County
Commissioner. “I encourage all county residents, and especially county
employees, to join in to take this small step toward energy efficiency.”
NACo is sponsoring a contest to see which county collects the most
pledges. Help Kitsap County become a top pledge collector and earn national
recognition through the first-ever County Change a Light Award. To take the
pledge online today, go to
www.naco.org/changealight.
After completing the pledge online, you will be prompted to go to Office
Depot’s website. There you receive a $1.50 coupon to help you buy your next,
or first, energy-efficient light bulb.
With summer nearly over, darker fall and winter days are right around the
corner—so switch out a bulb before you switch on the lights! Pledge today at
www.naco.org/changealight. The program ends September 30.
