Human Rights Council Members Needed

PORT ORCHARD, WA—If you are interested in serving your community as a member of the Council for Human Rights, you are encouraged to apply for current openings in Commissioner Districts 2 and 3. The Council’s 12 members advise the county commissioners on issues related to prejudice, discrimination, racially motivated violence and malicious harassment. The council promotes equitable treatment of all citizens and works to reduce prejudice and its effects through prevention policies, education, resource referrals and advocacy. Together with the Kitsap Board of County Commissioners, they sponsor the Annual Human Rights Conference.

The Council meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 6:00 p.m, except in December. Their meetings, which are open to the public, are usually held at the Silverdale Community Center.

An application may be obtained at Kitsap County Volunteer Services, Administration Building fourth floor, 619 Division Street, Port Orchard. To receive an application packet by mail, contact Jan Koske at (360) 337-4650, jkoske@co.kitsap.wa.us, or apply on line at www.kitsapgov.com/volunteer/frmbrdapp.htm.
