Caregiver Conference Takes Care of Caregivers
PORT
ORCHARD, WA—Kitsap County Aging & Long-Term Care
Services will present "Taking Care While Giving Care" on Thursday, November
16, 8:15a.m. to 3:45 p.m., at Kiana Lodge in Poulsbo. This all-day event
will provide up-to-date resources and practical skills training to support
and celebrate those who provide care for others.
Dynamic speakers from a variety of professions, including
nursing, social work, medicine, pharmacy and law, will share their expertise
and knowledge. Keynote speaker Margarita Suarez, MA, RN, will offer
caregivers information on "How to Keep Enthusiasm in the Face of Reality."
"In Kitsap County, over 80% of all long-term care for older adults or adults
with disabilities is provided by family caregivers," said Tawnya Weintraub,
Supervisor of Senior Information and Assistance. "Family and other
caregivers need information and access to quality training to support them
in their caregiving role. Past caregiver conferences have touched the lives
of many in Kitsap."
One caregiver who attended last year's conference summed up the thoughts of
many when describing the most valuable part of the day as "gaining knowledge
of all the services and support available for the aged and their
caregivers...and just knowing I am not alone."
The conference is free to volunteer and unpaid family
caregivers. There is a $35 fee for paid caregivers, agency representatives
and unpaid volunteer caregivers living outside Kitsap County. The fee
includes workshops, exhibits and lunch.
To register, interested caregivers should contact the
Caregiver Support Center at 360-337-5700 or 800-562-6418. Space is limited,
so early registration is encouraged.
