GREATER HANSVILLE AREA STRENGTHENS PLANNING EFFORT
Greater Hansville Area, WA—On
February 20, 2007, Kitsap County Department of Community Development staff
will begin work with representatives of the Greater Hansville Area Advisory
Council (GHAAC) to prepare an area-wide planning initiative that builds upon
the efforts of the Planning Committee of the Greater Hansville Futures
Project. In this collaboration the County and the GHA will explore
strategies for achieving community goals as expressed in the Greater
Hansville Futures Project. For example, the county could designate some
part(s) of the Greater Hansville Area as a “limited area(s) of more
intensive rural development”, or LAMIRD(s), which would recognize the area’s
identity under the Washington State Growth Management Act as a “rural
village” with historical boundaries while preventing urban-type sprawl. The
planning area generally includes the North Kitsap Peninsula from Eglon and
Little Boston Roads, to include the communities of Cliffside Beach , South
Hood Canal Drive and Eglon. “Hansville is a great community and they are
taking charge of their own destiny and I fully support them”, Commissioner
Chris Endresen stated.
The initial joint meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February
20th, 2007, at the Greater Hansville Community Center located at 6959 NE
Buck Lake Road in Hansville, Washington. The meeting will include a
discussion of County and GHAAC understandings about the planning process,
community and planning background, community boundaries, and future goals.
Subcommittees may also be established in the future to study specific
issues. It is anticipated that a draft plan will be submitted to the Board
of County Commissioners by the end of 2008.
