South Kitsap Community Park To Be Owned and Maintained By The County

PORT ORCHARD, WA—Kitsap County and the South Kitsap Parks and Recreation District have signed a settlement agreement that will soon transfer ownership and management of the South Kitsap Community Park to Kitsap County, as well as set in motion the dissolution of the South Kitsap Parks and Recreation District as a governing body.

“This beautiful park can be the gem of South Kitsap County, and we’re committed to maintaining this special place that the community will enjoy for generations to come,” said Kitsap County Commissioner Jan Angel, whose district serves south Kitsap County. “We appreciate the dedicated stewardship and service of the South Kitsap Parks and Recreation District, and we feel this agreement is a real win-win for both the county and the district.”

Under terms of the agreement approved Tuesday by Kitsap County Superior Court Judge Leonard Costello, South Kitsap Community Park will remain as a park and recreation area under county management, and once the park is officially transferred to the county, the parks district will begin the process to disband.
