Kitsap County Parks and Recreation’s inaugural “Take Me
Fishing” event on June 16 is a “sell-out”
PORT
ORCHARD, WA—Thanks to the generous donations of several
organizations, businesses and community groups, 300 lucky Kitsap County
children 5 to 14 years old will get a hands-on lesson on fishing with a free
Zebco rod and reel while wearing a “Fishing Kids” tee shirt at the Kitsap
County Parks and Recreation Department’s “Take Me Fishing” event on
Saturday, June 16, 9 am – 2 pm at Island Lake County Park, 1087 NW Island
Lake Road in Poulsbo.
The “Take Me Fishing” initiative’s goal is to introduce and encourage youths
and adults to enjoy recreational boating and fishing. Groups of 60 children
at a time will fish every 45 minutes, guided by plenty of knowledgeable
volunteers.
Kitsap County Parks and Recreation partnered “Catch a Special Thrill” (CAST)
for Kids Foundation to win a grant for fishing tools and training materials
from the Recreation Boating and Fishing Foundation and the National
Recreation and Park Association.
Other local sponsors who have helped made the event possible include the
Kitsap Poggie Club, Long Lake Bass Club, Kitsap County Stream Team, Kitsap
County Marine Patrol, North Kitsap Trout Unlimited, Sportsman’s Warehouse,
Costco, West Marine, Kmart and corporate sponsors, Zebco, Eagle Claw and the
Washington Bass Federation.
