Kitsap County budget document wins international award

PORT ORCHARD, WA—Kitsap County’s 2007 Budget Book has won the prestigious Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

“We’ve worked hard at Kitsap County to communicate clearly and openly with the people we serve, and we’re honored that our 2007 Budget Book has been recognized as one of the best public documents in the nation,” Kitsap County Commission Chair Chris Endresen said.

“This award to Kitsap County recognizes the county's outstanding achievement in presenting a budget document of the very highest quality that truly meets the needs of both decision makers and citizens" said Stephen Gauthier of the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada said.

To win the award, Kitsap County had to meet nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation and to also be rated proficient as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications device.

Along with the award to Kitsap County, Kitsap County Administrative Services Director Ben Holland will receive a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation from the association.

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving 16,800 government finance professionals throughout North America. The Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
