Kitsap County Commissioners seek Human Rights Council applicants

PORT ORCHARD, WA—North Kitsap County residents are encouraged to apply for a District 1 vacancy on the Kitsap County Council for Human Rights. The council’s twelve members advise the Kitsap County commissioners on issues related to prejudice, discrimination, racially motivated violence and malicious harassment. The council promotes equitable treatment of all citizens and works to reduce prejudice and its effects through prevention policies, education, resource referrals, and advocacy. Together with the board of county commissioners, they sponsor the Annual Human Rights Conference.

Except in December, the council meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 6:00 p.m. Their meetings, which are open to the public, are usually held at the Silverdale Community Center.

For further information or to receive an application packet, contact Jan Koske, Kitsap County Volunteer Services Coordinator, at (360) 337-4650 or jkoske@co.kitsap.wa.us Applications may also be completed on line at www.kitsapgov.com/volunteer/frmbrdapp.htm. Completed applications should be returned by 4:30 p.m. on August 24, 2007.
