Kitsap County Commissioners Host Community Meetings

Port Orchard  – County residents are invited to attend one of three meetings with the Board of County Commissioners beginning in late September.  These “Community Conversations” will allow the Board members to share with citizens an overview of the county’s budget and its current financial challenges.  In addition, they can hear first-hand from citizens their questions, concerns and priorities for county services. 

Chair Josh Brown says the meetings are designed to allow the board to hear from county residents in an informal setting.  “We want to hear from citizens in every part of the county, and from every perspective about their concerns.  Establishing the budget is one of the most basic yet critical roles of the board of county commissioners.  The budget sets the priorities.  This year, we are faced with having to cut $4 million from our general fund.  Ben Holland, our Administrative Services Manager, will provide an overview of our budget and the fiscal constraints we operate under.  Hearing from citizens directly about the issues that are impacting them will greatly aid us in making those difficult decisions this year.”

The first “Community Conversation” with the Board of Kitsap County Commissioners will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25^th in the Board of Commissioner’s Chambers, located at 619 Division, Port Orchard.  The second meeting will be held at 7:00 pm on October 2^nd at North Kitsap High School and the third and final meeting will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday, October 11^th at Olympic High School.  Those seeking more information on the meeting can call the Commissioner’s office at 360-337-7146.
