Winter break a great time for kids of all ages to apply
for passports
PORT
ORCHARD, WA—If you’ve been thinking about getting a passport for
your children or for yourself, Kitsap County Clerk Dave Peterson says now is
the perfect time to apply.
“With most families home together for the holidays it’s a very convenient
time to apply for a passport, since everyone – including children – must
apply in person,” Peterson said. “Children under 14 years of age must have
both parents present when applying, and if one parent is unable to attend, a
notarized letter of consent must be provided.”
No appointment is necessary to apply. The Kitsap County Clerk’s Office is
located at the Kitsap County Administration Building, 619 Division Street,
Port Orchard. Applications are accepted weekdays 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. and the
office will be closed in observance of Christmas Day, Dec. 25 and New Year’s
Day, Jan. 1, 2008.
All passport applicants must provide proof of citizenship (typically a
certified birth certificate copy or an old passport); identity (any form of
valid photo identification); and two 2” x 2” headshot photos.
Application fees range from $52 for children up to 15 years of age to $67
for everyone 16 and above, plus a $30 processing fee for each passport
(separate check or money order).
Standard passport processing takes about six weeks. To expedite passports
(about two weeks) requires an additional $60 per passport application.
Application forms may be downloaded from the U.S. Department of State
passport website at http://travel.state.gov/passport/forms/forms_847.html
