Four County parks close for winter
PORT
ORCHARD, WA — The Board of County Commissioners approved closing four
lake-front parks, Horseshoe Lake, Long Lake, Wildcat Lake, and Island Lake
for the winter season. The closures are part of an effort to curb vandalism
at County parks. Senior Parks Maintenance Supervisor Dori Leckner said “Day
use drops significantly during the winter and there is a correlating
increase in vandalism.” A committee developed with the Sheriff’s office
considered ways to reduce vandalism at parks, and recommended the closures
to the Commissioners.
The parks remain closed until April 1, 2008. The access gates are locked.
Individuals and organizations who have scheduled events at the Long Lake and
Island Lake Community Rooms are able to access those facilities. Call for
details. If you are interested in renting a Parks facility, or have
questions about Kitsap County parks, call 360-337-5350.
