Kitsap County to celebrate National County Government Week
(Port Orchard, WA) Kitsap
County’s Board of Commissioners announced plans today to declare April 21 –
25, 2008 as Kitsap County Government Awareness Week. First established by
the National Association of Counties (NACo) in 1991, the goal of National
County Government Awareness Week is to raise public understanding and
awareness of the roles and responsibilities our county is committed to
maintaining.
This year’s celebration
includes essay, art and video competitions between local high school
students. County Commissioners are speaking at high schools in their
districts encouraging student involvement. “It is our belief that community
involvement today helps to shape a brighter tomorrow – for our community,
our county, and our youth,” County Commissioner Josh Brown said. Entries
submitted are evaluated on content and formulation. Entries are also used in
future communications about county government services. Winners in each
category are awarded scholarships later this spring.
Complete information about the
essay, art, and video competitions is being sent to area schools later this
week. That information is available on the County’s web site as well.
