Kitsap County celebrates Government Awareness Week
(Port Orchard, WA) Kitsap County celebrates its first Government Awareness
Week starting this weekend. The Board Of Commissioners passed a resolution
this year for a week designed to raise public understanding and awareness of
the roles and responsibilities our county is committed to maintaining.
County employees start the celebration by helping with the Sinclair Inlet
Clean-Up on Saturday. Local students are invited to submit essays, posters,
or videos that highlight the theme “My Kind of Kitsap: My Community, My
Space.” The winners will be announced at the regular Board meeting April 28.
County Commissioners are visiting local high school classes Tuesday, talking
about the importance of involvement in county government. “This is a great
opportunity for students to see first hand, who we are and what we do. I am
excited about this opportunity to meet some of our younger citizens, and
hope this encourages them to get involved,” County Commissioner Steve Bauer
said. Friday, April 25 local high school students have the opportunity to
shadow County workers and visit with staff members in career fields in which
the students are interested. A special presentation by the Board of
Commissioners is planned for the participating students.
Complete information about the essay, art, and video contest is available on
our website.
