Kitsap Cares About Kids

Port Orchard) – The Kitsap County
Commission on Children and Youth had their annual planning meeting
January 8th. The purpose of the Commission is to advise and make
recommendations to the Kitsap County Board of Commissioners and the
people of Kitsap County on issues affecting children and youth in Kitsap
County.
Over thirty volunteers attended the January meeting, including
representatives from various sectors including education, health, law &
justice, military, business, and social services. Major accomplishments
for the Commission in 2009 included investing $40,000 in local out of
school programs, and increased participation by 1,000 youth in youth
programs. The 2010 planning meeting included presentations by Kitsap
County Commissioner Charlotte Garrido, and Bremerton Mayor Patty Lent.
Young adults between the ages of 13 - 18 that are passionate about
issues that affect youth are encouraged to join the Commission. There
are three vacancies for youth that are interested in public speaking,
networking with area professionals and being a voice for their schools
and communities. For more information please contact Gay Neal at
