(Port Orchard, WA) - Kitsap County officials are hosting a meeting to present and discuss options designed to make Kingston more pedestrian friendly. Representatives from Public Works and their consultant are scheduled to discuss a feasibility study that assesses how ferry–bound traffic might be redirected to increase pedestrian access.

“Many Kingston residents have asked the County and the State to consider ways to route ferry traffic efficiently while preserving the unique nature of the downtown Kingston core,” said Greg Cioc, County Transportation Planner. Four different alignment options are being presented at the meeting, as well as an analysis of the ferry holding area. Representatives from the County’s Community Development staff are also presenting new updated parking options within the downtown area designed to encourage commercial development.

Residents are encouraged to attend and express their opinions on the different options presented. “This is a great opportunity to see the alternatives, and help decide which option works best for local residents and ferry commuters,” said Cioc. After the meeting officials choose the best options and develop a preliminary design. The preliminary design is presented to the Washington State Department of Transportation for consideration in their highway improvement plans. County officials also plan to meet with state representatives to explore funding to complete the design and build the project.
