Limited Services Available June 16th at County's Department of Community Development

Preparation for upgraded permit management system planned

(Port Orchard, WA) - Kitsap County’s Department of Community Development (DCD) is limiting services available Thursday, June 16th to begin the process of implementing an upgraded permit management system. “Our core services, including permit intake and inspections, continue as normal, but other staff is focusing on implementing this new process improvement activity,” according to DCD Director Larry Keeton.

Since 2007, DCD has implemented over 200 measures designed to improve operations. Actions already implemented include post-card notification of land use actions, streamlined county development code, new application processing methods and other strategic processes. “Residents expect government to deliver results. Achieving these objectives requires periodic retooling,” said Keeton “The work planned for the 16th is necessary to build on the over 200 improvements staff implemented in the past four years,” Keeton added. “The end result of these efforts is better information for residents, a streamlined application form, and the opportunity to validate the checklists and other materials that guide an application through the permitting process.

The goal of the effort is better efficiency and more effective methodology for the permit management system. The improvements will reduce processing times and promote more transparency in the process. “We want to create a more positive experience for applicants and increase the level of service we provide,” added Keeton.
