Kitsap County receives "Wastewater Treatment Plant Outstanding Performance" awards

Central Kitsap, Kingston and Manchester plants recognized
for excellence

(Port Orchard, WA) - The State of Washington’s Department of Ecology recognized three Kitsap County Public Works wastewater treatment plants with their annual “Outstanding Performance” awards. The award went to the Central Kitsap Treatment Plant, the Manchester Treatment Plant, and the Kingston Treatment Plant. The awards are presented in recognition of compliance with effluent limits, monitoring and reporting requirements, spill prevention planning, pretreatment, and overall operational demands of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit. Of the 300 plants statewide only 104 achieved full compliance with the permit in 2010.

“It takes diligent operators and a strong management team, working effectively together, to achieve this high level of compliance,” said Kelly Susewing, Water Quality Program Manager for Ecology. This is the 16th consecutive year the awards have been earned at the Manchester Treatment Plant. The Central Kitsap plant has been recognized six times previously and the Kingston Plant earned its fifth award this year. “These awards reflect the value we place in meeting established goals, and recognizes our commitment to protect natural resources,” said Randy Casteel, Public Works Director.
