Sustainable Cinema Series features "Play Again"

The documentary investigates the consequences of a childhood removed from nature and encourages action for a sustainable future

(Port Orchard, WA) - The 2011-12 Kitsap County Sustainable Cinema Series kicks off this Sunday, July 24, with a showing of the award winning documentary PLAY AGAIN. The film will be shown at the historic Dragonfly Cinema in downtown Port Orchard at 2:00 p.m. YMCA Youth Programs staff member, Rachelle Jensen, will lead a discussion at the film’s conclusion.

PLAY AGAIN is directed by Tonje Hessen Schi, produced by Meg Merrill, and edited by David Bee. The soundtrack includes music from Icelandic band Sigur Ros and singer Kimya Dawson.

At a time when children spend more time in the virtual world than the natural world, PLAY AGAIN unplugs a group of media savvy teens and takes them on their first wilderness adventure, showing the wonder that comes from time spent in nature.

The film encourages individuals, families, schools, and communities to examine their relationships with both screen technology and nature, and inspires them to take action to reconnect children to the natural world.

There is no charge. Donations are accepted to defray the costs to continue the series.

The Sustainable Cinema Series was created to provide interactive and educational information to Kitsap County residents about sustainable living. The series is sponsored by Kitsap County Commissioner Charlotte Garrido.
