Budget Review Committee to hear program requests for 2012 budget
Presentations broadcast on BKAT and available online
(Port Orchard, WA) A series of presentations before the County’s
Board of Commissioners and the Budget Review Committee begin next week as
part of the process to create a balanced budget for 2012. Board Chair
Charlotte Garrido says, “The chance to look at each program and use
objective criteria to identify community priorities, possible partnerships,
and increased efficiency provides vital information for the Commissioners’
decision making process.” Amber D’Amato, the County’s Administrative
Services Director, adds, “The Budget Review Committee provides insight from
different perspectives and is a valuable part of the process.” The review
panel includes the Board of County Commissioners and community members
representing each Commissioner district.
Each department will outline their priorities and proposed expenses to
support them. Information gained during these informal hearings is used to
help develop the proposed 2012 budget. D’Amato and her staff will work
with the Board to coordinate information on revenues and expenses.
“The Board presents their formal budget proposal during a public hearing in
November,” said D’Amato. “At this stage, public comment can be
submitted through the County‘s
budget web site. There is an opportunity for public
comment during the formal hearing in November," D'Amato added.
The web site provides information about the presentation schedule and the
broadcast dates and times for each session. BKAT, the local community access
television station, is re-broadcasting sessions and the recordings are
available online as well. You’ll also find other information related to the
presentations and the budget process on the website.
