Making Building Better—Kitsap Energy Upgrade
Kitsap Home Builders Association Hosts Tours

(Port Orchard, WA)  The improvements made by the Home Builders Association (HBA) of Kitsap County to their Bremerton headquarters are now on display as a live demonstration to builders and homeowners on how they can realize savings from energy efficiency upgrades. Kitsap County partnered on the project and obtained funding from the Department of Energy to make this important community resource available. An Open House with free tours is slated for October 23 and 29, 2011.

Visitors will learn from experts about the six key strategies used to reduce energy consumption, minimize wasted resources and keep more green in your wallet. Builders will find the latest features that add value and innovative energy efficiency strategies to their projects.

Key Energy-Saving Strategies that are Getting Results:

  • Better air sealing

  • More insulation

  • New appliances & equipment

  • More efficient plumbing fixtures

  • Cool roof

  • New efficient lighting

"This federal grant gives us the resources to showcase better building strategies while saving our membership money—an exciting way to ‘walk our talk’ and provide real benefits to Kitsap County residents and members of the HBA”, said Teresa Osinski, Executive Vice President of the HBA.

The free tour includes a living classroom where each of the strategies deployed are explained through on-site signage, and the results explained by volunteer docents. A slideshow displaying the work in progress, fun giveaways and themed prizes are also part of the Open House.

See first-hand techniques to save energy, lower utility bills and create a home that is more comfortable to live in and improve a home’s marketability.

The Kitsap Energy Upgrade is a project of the Kitsap Home Builders Association and Kitsap County. Kitsap County is using federal stimulus funds to support the Kitsap Energy Upgrade project in an effort to reduce energy demand, create green jobs, and increase the implementation of energy efficient measures in county homes and businesses. Kitsap County was awarded $2.229 million in Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) funds from the U.S. Department of Energy in December 2009. EECBG program funding was appropriated by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.
