Access limited to right-in/right-out on Myhre Road
just north of Ridgetop Boulevard
Sheriff’s Office requests evaluation in response to high
collision rate there

(Port Orchard, WA) - Kitsap County Public Works recently completed installing a raised curb section across the centerline at the approach to the shopping center between Myhre and Ridgetop . “This entrance into and out of the shopping center including Costco and Lowes is now right in right out only,” according to Jeff Shea, Traffic Engineer. The change was done by installing a raised curb section across the centerline of the road, effectively prohibiting left turn movements.

“We’ve placed reflective delineators and signs to help motorists see that left turns are prohibited,” Shea added. Shopping patrons still have easy access to the shopping center using either the next entrance at Lowes, or continuing on Ridgetop Blvd to the first right entrance.

The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office requested the evaluation due to the high number of collisions occurring at the entrance. There were nine collisions during 2010, the latest year for which collision data is available. Most of the collisions happen when motorists turn left into or out of the shopping center there. Public Works consulted with business owners in the shopping area before making the decision to prohibit the turns.
