County Commissioners Honor Students for America Recycles Day Posters

(Port Orchard, WA)  At their regular televised meeting on November 14, the Kitsap County Board of Commissioners will honor local students who won the annual America Recycles Day poster contest.

November 15 is the 14th annual America Recycles Day (ARD) celebration which focuses public attention on the social, economic, and environmental benefits of recycling. The theme is, “It All Comes Back to You”, to emphasize that to close the recycling loop you must buy products made from the items you've recycled.

This year, ten winning posters will be published, two each Friday for five consecutive Fridays beginning November 18th in the “Kitsap Week” section in each of the community newspapers in Kitsap County. Winning poster entries are also posted on the county website at www.kitsapgov.com/sw.

Kitsap County Solid Waste Division’s Recycling Coordinator, Chris Piercy commented, “I commend the efforts of all of our ARD poster winners this year, and applaud all of the dedicated young folks that submitted posters into the contest. It is great to see the consistent message in each poster that everyone can do their part to help improve the environment. This year’s posters demonstrate a variety of themes from cautionary tales of what could happen if we manage our waste poorly, to the “new-fashioned” single stream method of how our recyclables are collected, and one even depicts some of the products that our recyclables can be remanufactured into. I am excited to see the grasp these young students have on the concept of “closing the loop”.

This year’s winners are:

  • Lola Luna - Crosspoint Academy, 1st grade

  • Abigail Rogers - Crosspoint Academy, 4th grade

  • Faith Adriatico - Woodlands Elementary, 4th grade

  • Annelise Wilhite - Crosspoint Academy, 5th grade

  • Patricia Dunlap - Esquire Hills Elementary, 6th grade

  • Ann Cabacungan - Hidden Creek Elementary, 3rd grade

  • Neesa Bohman - Olalla Elementary, 3rd grade

  • Jasmine Dempsey - South Colby Elementary, 5th grade

  • Ana Bucy - Woodward Middle School, 8th grade

  • Charlotte Halbert - Gateway Christian School, 2nd grade
