Public Hearing set for Shoreline Management Master
Program update
Information Open House precedes hearings
(Kitsap County, WA) Kitsap County has completed
a revised draft Shoreline Management Master Program (SMP) for public review
and comment. The Kitsap Board of County Commissioners is hosting a public
hearing at 5:30 p.m. Monday, October 22nd at the Kitsap County
Administration Building and again at 5:30 p.m. Monday, October 29th at
Poulsbo City Hall. An Open House starts at 4:30 p.m. at each location to
provide general information and answer questions about the SMP.
The County has been working since 2009 with a citizen task force, state
resource agencies and local tribes to revise the SMP to comply with state
law. The update is required to be completed by December 2012.
The SMP is a comprehensive plan that includes policies and regulations for
the use and development of the shoreline. Kitsap County has over 225 miles
of saltwater, stream and lakefront shorelines supporting numerous and
diverse environmental, economic, and recreational uses.
Written comments, in person or by mail, are encouraged and will be accepted
through the close of business November 5, 2012. Mailed comments should be
postmarked by the end of the public comment period and addressed to Dana
Daniels, Clerk of the Board, Kitsap County Board of Commissioners, MS-4, 614
Division St., Port Orchard, WA 98366. More information about the update is
available online at
www.kitsapshoreline.org.
