County employee returns to work after 3-year military
(Port Orchard, WA) – Craig
D. Hanson has returned to work as a Deputy Fire Marshal after serving
overseas and with the Army for three years. Craig was called up with the
National Guard to serve as an advisor to Iraq’s Ministry of Interior for the
Iraqi Fire Service and Iraq’s national Emergency Operations Center in
November of 2009.
In addition to those duties Craig was also assigned as the Force Protection
Non-commissioned Officer in Charge for a small outpost in Baghdad. When he
returned from overseas, he was asked to serve as the Operations Sergeant
Major for the National Guard's new and experimental “Homeland Response
Force”, a 500 person unit which responds to chemical, biological and
all-hazard events that have overwhelmed local authorities. Craig helped
develop the doctrine of the unit as well as the training events and large
scale exercises for the unit and civil authorities. Craig, who was awarded a
Bronze Star for service in 2004, was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service
Medal for his recent service in Iraq.
"I appreciate the opportunity to serve in the National Guard and am thankful
for the ability to resume my civilian career," Hanson said. "I'm looking
forward to returning to my duties as a Deputy Fire Marshal for the County
and am eager to help our community any way I can," Hanson added.
