County Announces New Waste Reduction Program for
Businesses
(Port Orchard, WA) – Does your business recycle?
Have you been making efforts in the workplace to reduce waste? Are you
considering a waste reduction & recycling program for your business to
reduce your bottom line, and increase profits?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions,
there is a program for you.
Kitsap County Public Works Solid Waste Division introduces
Waste Wise @ Work, a free and voluntary program where experts
provide technical assistance for businesses to start new recycling
programs. Funded by a grant from the Washington State Department
of Ecology, the program also provides a limited number of desk-side blue
bins to businesses that opt to sign up for commercial collection
service. The program provides certification to companies
that qualify, and then recognizes them for their efforts To
qualify for certification, a business must recycle a minimum of 40% of
their solid waste and implement simple practices that reduce
consumption. Each certified business earns a certificate and
window cling, recognition in the County’s new Waste Wise @ Work
newsletter, and mention on the County’s website.
In addition, as part of the annual Earth Day awards
in April, the Division will award a new Waste Wise @ Work Business of
the Year award to one business that shows exceptional efforts to
reduce waste and recycle.
If you own or operate a
business and want to start recycling, schedule a technical assistance
visit, or have other questions, please call Chris Piercy, Kitsap
County’s Recycling Coordinator, at 360-337-4898
