Orchard) - An Open House is set for February 27 to explain a new
project at the Central Kitsap Treatment Plant in Brownsville. The Central
Kitsap Treatment Plant Resource Recovery Project has a two main purposes.
The project addresses necessary repairs and rehabilitation of outdated,
inefficient, and undersized sewage treatment equipment and incorporates
processes that allow the recovery for beneficial use from the waste streams.
" This project exemplifies the commitment of Kitsap County to provide
dependable infrastructure for its citizens while conserving natural
resources and protecting the environment we share," said Barbara Zaroff, the
Engineer for the project.
The repairs and upgrades include improvements to biosolid handling and
storage equipment, the in-plant process water system, electrical gear, as
well as the mechanical and hydraulic equipment used in the process. The
resource recovery elements includes the capture of methane gas for
co-generation of heat and electricity to be used throughout the plant, and
the removal of nitrogen from the liquid waste stream for the future
production of reclaimed water uses throughout Central Kitsap.
Representatives at the meeting include the Project Engineer, the site
superintendent for the contractor, the construction manager and the design
engineer from Brown and Caldwell.
Ground-breaking for the construction of this $29 million project is expected
in early March. Work on the project is expected to continue through June,
